Pax Templi:
Pax Templi Rules
As a Chartered Local Body of the Ordo Templi Orientis, we are dedicated to providing an environment that is free from impeding each individual’s Will, and maintaining the kind of safe and secure group environment conducive to true magickal work. In any sort of group setting, there is always the risk, either by accident or by malice, of a Member’s rights being violated. Here follows the Privileges and Responsibilities of Membership in Sol Invictus Camp, all formulated within context of the writings and decrees of Baphomet XI and Sabazius X. By “Brethren” we mean all active members of Sol Invictus Camp or the Ordo Templi Orientis who are in good standing. While former or inactive members are welcome as Brothers and Sisters in our Camp and we look upon all guests of members as our Brothers and Sisters in Spirit, regardless of their tradition, the needs of active members will take priority.
These are the Pax Templi rules.
I. Privileges.
A. All Brethren will be permitted to use the Body’s Libraries, as per the Libraries’ policies, and all media borrowed should be returned in due time, upon request of the Librarian, and undamaged. Failure to do so or to compensate for loss or damage to materials will result in loss of this privilege or being placed on local Bad Report, depending on the seriousness and intent of the matter.
B. All Brethren have the right to participate joyously in each other’s pursuits of pleasure, study and practice, as well as the right to refuse to do so without fear of retribution.
C. All Brethren have the right to be free of harassment from any other; particularly sexual harassment, verbal or written harassment, stalking, and other such disrespectful and criminal behavior.
D. All Brethren have the right to privacy and free time. No Member is expected to be available at all times as a magickal or spiritual advisor.
E. All Brethren have the right to voice their opinions, thoughts and feelings freely, as well as to ask questions they are otherwise unable to answer themselves.
1. If disagreements arise from execution of this right, Brethren not involved in the dispute have the right to be involved or not, as they Will, bearing in mind the Thelemic principles of personal responsibility.
2. If it is determined by a Brother or Sister that a question may truly be answered by the questioner, they may choose to point out an avenue to search for an answer, or to insist that the questioner continue to work it out on their own.
F. All Brethren have the right to arrange, plan, write and direct Body Activities within the bounds of the OTO Bylaws.
G. All Brethren have the right to peruse but not possess without the Order’s approval all documents regarding the governance of Local Bodies. This includes the current OTO Bylaws and the Bodymaster’s Handbook.
H. All Brethren have the right to study the text of all Initiation Rituals and related degree material up to and including the highest Degree they possess.
II. Responsibilities.
A. It is incumbent upon each Member to enforce their above stated Privileges. If they are unable, due to another’s intimidation, physical force or sheer persistence, they may appeal to the Bodymaster for assistance, or in extreme cases, the Local Authorities. The Bodymaster may, in turn, appeal to the Electoral College or, in extreme cases, the Local Authorities should he/she be unable to resolve the situation.
B. All Brethren are expected to treat each other with respect, as fellow stars. Harassment, insult, libel and slander are considered disrespectful. Grand Master Sabazius has outlined the O.T.O. policy on slander (enclosed with this document) and it will be enforced.
C. Initiative and participation are encouraged. If there is question of how one may contribute to or lead an Event, they need only ask.
D. Prior notice should be established before personal visits. It should be taken into consideration that other Brethren have a need for privacy.
E. The energies used in Magick should be used responsibly. Magickal Attack, and in general, Magick used to overcome another person’s Will is expressly forbidden to be associated with OTO activity. Additionally, threats of Magickal Attack are to be disregarded and OTO members should not compromise their own dignity or that of the OTO by participating in “witch wars.”
F. No illegal drugs are to be consumed at or brought to an OTO event. Nor are any firearms to be in possession, except with due licensing and in the performance of the duty of a police officer or security guard and in strict accordance with local and state laws. Also, no ceremonial weapons are to be brandished threateningly at anyone. Violation of this clause will involve immediate Bad Report, and barring from future involvement in Local OTO Activity.
G. With Sponsorship is implied a responsibility to the quality of the Candidate. Should the Candidate be brought before the Grand Tribunal for an offense, the Sponsor will be implicated as well. Therefore, the Sponsor should take an advisor role in the development (including review of degree material as necessary) of the Candidate(s) they have sponsored, and keep record of such.
H. With the above rule in mind, it would be wise for the Candidate to conduct themselves ethically, honorably, and responsibly, striving to be above reproach, not only for his or her own sake, but for the sake of his or her Sponsors who have put their reputation in the Order on the line for the Candidate’s sake.
Note: All potential Members of this Body will be gauged according to the above guidelines for eligibility to Sponsorship and continued activity with Sol Invictus and are expected to abide by this policy while participating in public or private OTO events. Specific privileges, such as use of Library and Temple, may be reserved for Brethren, or those who have proven themselves by compliance with this rules worthy of being considered honored and beloved friends and guests of our Camp, homes, and Temples. |
